Aspen had her Special Olympics Spring Event in the first week of May. Todd finally told me how to email pictures to myself from my phone. This was the first time I've gone to a SO event. Her class did bowling and also basketball earlier in the year. This was a track and field event and they started it off with a parade of athletes around the track. I was crying, to see all of these special people with such an awesome spirit radiating from them, I couldn't help but cry. I was so happy for them, and when I saw Aspen I lost it, good thing I had my sunglasses on. Aspen loves participating and was really happy to just go with the flow. It was very hot that day!
The head football coach and one of Aspen's adaptive PE teachers is amazing, he includes these kids in a lot. During football season they get to wear jersey's on game days and sit up in front and cheer with the team during assemblies. He also has some of his football players help out with the kids in SO. Aspen had Jamar to help her in her events. He was very nice and polite.
Aspen competed in the standing long jump, she tried it three times. She wouldn't move forward, but she got a couple of inches of the ground, she is such a sweetie an was so proud of herself. I love it! Her second and last event was a 50 meter dash. She did well and smiled the whole time. She has a tee shirt and medal from the event, and has so much fun. She didn't even want to come home with me, she stayed to go home with her class. I personally don't think she wanted to miss out on anything.
Here are a few pictures from that day. Enjoy!!
Gotta love her!!
