1st Field Trip with Madison

This was a fun one.  Hot! Hot! Hot!  We drove to Morehead City to board a chartered boat to Shackleford Banks.  We found out all about the island, how long it has been since it was inhabited, the wild horses, how to tell a healthy island and that it is part of the Cape Lookout National Forest.  We took a 1/2 mile walk from the inward side to the ocean side of the island, went sea shell hunting (it wasn't really hunting, they were everywhere!), walked the half mile back and got to see all of the animals in the ocean.  Then took the 25 minute boat ride back.  It was fun and I was happy to be able to go with Madi.  Now for the not so fun aspects.  It was HOT!! My reef walker had a blowout on the way back from the ocean side (I guess too many Hawaiian reef's), and I lost the bus at a light and was not able to eat lunch with Madi.  But all in all, it was great to go and spend the time with Madi.  Oh, I almost forgot the horses.  The island is home to wild horses!  Go here to find out more: Shackleford Horses.  Here are some great pics of Madi with her friends.  I must say the hat is sooooo cute on her!
